Chester Race Company is delighted to offer an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to join our Horseradish team as a Back of House Manager. This permanent position, based in the heart of Chester, holds a pivotal role in overseeing the kitchen porter team and ensuring the seamless and efficient operation of all kitchen facilities.
This position is the perfect fit for someone who can work within a team collaboratively whilst providing professional leadership to ensure the team are maintaining high standards of cleanliness. This is a hands-on role and can be physically demanding at times.
General Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring Food Safety, HACCPs and Health and Safety Guidelines are always adhered to
- Ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are being maintained throughout all the kitchens on the racecourse
- Effectively communicating with chefs and FOH team before and during service to understand needs and prioritise tasks to support service delivery
- Managing the kitchen porter team, complete weekly rotas, book kitchen porters direct & agency, race day check-in, ensuring the completion of kitchen cleaning tasks and completing cleaning schedules
- Supervise the kitchen porter team on large events on and off site (Chester race days, Liverpool Cathedral, Bangor on Dee Racecourse)
- Equipment logistics and kitchen planning, moving catering equipment around site making sure kitchens are ready to use, equipment is clean and assembled for outside events, checking First Aid boxes and sourcing any missing stock
- Maintaining food storage areas such as fridges and freezers to a high standard of order and hygiene
- Place chemical orders
- Managing kitchen waste and recycling, adhering to site waste management protocols
Key requirements:
- Previous experience working within a commercial kitchen as a kitchen porter
- Previous experience managing a team
- Holds an in-date Food Hygiene Certificate
Skills and Attributes:
Organised – effective time management and the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines efficiently
Strong interpersonal skills – collaborates and communicates effectively with diverse teams
Resilient under pressure - able to act on instructions quickly
Physically fit - able to be on their feet for long periods of time with regular lifting

Salary: £28,000 to £32,000 dependant on experience
Hours of work:
40 hours per week
Evening and weekend work is expected in line with business needs with the ability to work occasional irregular hours during race events and busy periods.
This role is based in Chester with occasional travel in the UK and therefore a reliable commute to Chester city centre is essential.
